What is so special about Hampi?
Hampi has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its unique landscape. The entire area resembles a vast park of enormous rocks and boulders in strange, fascinating shapes, as if sculpted by the Hindu gods themselves. According to legend, Hanuman — the monkey-headed warrior god — once threw a rock so forcefully that it shattered and scattered, creating the incredible rock formations seen today. This dramatic landscape is set against a backdrop of banana plantations, green rice fields, streams, and serene, pastoral expanses.
In the past, Hampi was a large city called Vijayanagara, which served as the regional capital. The ruins of this city still exist in Hampi today, and they are part of what makes it such a unique UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Hampi is a site of religious significance and is associated with several events from Hindu mythology. As a result, it is home to numerous temples and the ruins of ancient temples.
Alongside all this, you’ll find tranquil natural spots, breathtaking viewpoints, and stunning sunsets.
As a result, Hampi attracts numerous tourists from across India and around the world, including many Israelis. It is truly a unique natural phenomenon, likely unlike anything else anywhere else in the world.

During the day, visitors can cross between the two sides by small boat, though this service typically ends in the late afternoon or evening.
