Malana - An Extraordinary Cultural Experience
Malana, one of the unique villages in the Parvati Valley and in India in general, is not only a village that offers stunning views, but above all a cultural experience that is nothing less than a hallucination. The villagers believe that they are direct descendants of Alexander the Great and consider themselves from an upper caste that is distinct from all other residents of India and even from Western tourists. Therefore, according to their customs, strangers are forbidden to talk to them or ask for help, and they are definitely forbidden to touch them! This may lead to unpleasant reactions. The village has marked paths that can only be followed. This is one of the oldest villages in the Parvati River and Kulu Valley area. The villagers speak the language unique to the region and despite the strange atmosphere that is typical of this village, it is an experience not to be missed, but keep in mind that staying in the village is interesting but not necessarily pleasant over time, and the places to stay for tourists are few and located on the outskirts of the village, so it is recommended to arrive on a day trip by taxi from Kasol or by walking from one of the nearby villages (a short trek that will include a steep climb at the end to the high village).
