Uttarakhand

The beautiful, green, and water-rich Uttarakhand is a state in northern India nestled in the magical Himalayan range. 

Uttarakhand borders Uttar Pradesh to the south, Himachal Pradesh to the west, Tibet to the north, and Nepal to the east (and indeed, some travelers choose to cross overland between Nepal and India, via Kasar Devi).

Uttarakhand is home to the sources of the great and sacred Ganges River in the Hindu religion, and as a result, there are many holy cities in Uttarakhand and a lot of domestic tourism by Indians from all over the country who come to watch and bathe in the holy waters and participate in ceremonies at the important temples. 

One of the most sacred and important places in Uttarakhand, and in India in general, is Rishikesh. It is also one of the most central places for hummus and has been a favorite of Israelis for many years. Rishikesh, located right on the banks of the Ganges River, is the world's yoga capital, with countless yoga studios. But even those who are not connected to the world of yoga will find themselves in this magical place with its picturesque landscape, among the cozy cafes, nature walks and waterfalls, and many workshops. There is no shortage of things to do.
